About Our Style

Our style is known as SMRTJ (Seishin Mizu Ryu Tatakai Jutsu), a holistic martial art whose core techniques can be traced back to the battlefields of feudal Japan.

Why Jiu-Jitsu?

It is a realistic and practical martial art which considers the possibility of weapons and multiple attacks from all angles. It does not require great amounts of strength either and focus is more on technique.

What can Jiu-Jitsu do for me?Pa Kwa

It can improve your strength, fitness, confidence, discipline and overall fighting ability. We have had members from various styles who previously practised Kickboxing, Karate, Judo and even Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu.

Who can practice Jiu-Jitsu?

Anyone. We have both males and females in our club and on our committee. Jiu-Jitsu is not about strength, but technique, which is why you can practice regardless of your build or fitness. Of course there are exceptions (such as certain medical conditions).

History of our style

The style has an extensive unarmed syllabus which has a proven track record as an effective self-defence (including defences from the whole range of punching, kicking, throwing, locking, holding and choking techniques both armed and unarmed; while also developing defences and appreciation of attacking strategies against multiple opponents); traditional weapons are also main arms of the style, a long side Ground fighting and pressure points. Therefore individuals are developed who have all round martial ability.
